Frequently Asked Questions...
"Do natural dyes fade?"
I use mordants (a substance that helps the dye bond with the fiber) which help ensure colorfastness (which means it make them resistant to fading from washing or exposure to light), I also wash and dry my yarns in sunlight to ensure that the color you get when the yarn arrives is the color that will stay.
Do be mindful natural dyes ARE NOT the same as chemical dyes in many ways. Natural dyes still can fade if left out in the sun for long periods of time or washed with very hot water or harsh soap. Also unlike chemical dyes, when natural dyes fade they age gracefully, becoming a muted shade of what they once were.
"Do naturally dyed yarns bleed?"
It is possible for natural dyed fibers to bleed when being washed. Just be careful to wash with cold water and a ph neutral soap and it should not stain other fibers.
When washing a finished knitted item, I suggest gently drying with a towel (carefully pressing the water out of the item, never wringing) before laying flat to dry.
"Do you offer yarn support for designers?"
I would love to! Feel free to shoot me an email and we can work out the details. Keep in mind, I work in small batches, can't gaurentee I can get certain colors and since I'm such a small business I can only offer limited yarn support.
